Chiang Mai, Thailand

I had a few days left in Thailand so I figured I'd take a quick trip up north before flying to Europe (can't say I've done Thailand if I only see one city). I had no idea what to expect of Chiang Mai other than temples and elephants. Was it going to be crazy like Bangkok? I was pleasantly surprised by this laid-back northern city. While I only had 2.5 days here, I tried to make my best of it. The first night I checked the old city, temples, saw traditional Thai dances, and walked around the night markets. I was lucky to catch a major Buddhist celebration. Second day I went elephant trekking, bamboo rafting and hiking to a waterfall, gorged at the night markets, and went drinking at a local club (Bossy). Third day I just had enough time for an 8 hour Thai massage course before rushing to the airport. The one thing I wanted to do was chat with some Thai monks (they have a program set up) but it was impossible due to the holidays. Next time. Yeah - elephants are damn cool! Their trunks are like wet vacuum cleaners and they didn't smell as bad as I feared. The wild pigs, on the other hand, smell terrible.
