Oslo and Tromsø, Norway (11/22/2017 - 11/27/2017)

This was the first leg of our month-long trip throughout Northern Europe. I had been lucky enough to bank enough vacation days from the past busy years and holiday overtime to just vanish for a bit.

It had been 19 years since I visited Norway as part of my first solo trip away from home just prior to university. That had been 2 weeks covering Oslo, Molde, and the west coast.

For Oslo, it was so long ago that I remembered almost nothing about Oslo except a good friend who I reconnected with and Frogner Park with its bizarre statues, which I captured in higher resolution, but sadly very poor lighting due to the short days.

Like my first trip, we went north, except this time, we went *really* north - Tromsø - 300 km above the Arctic Circle, where it was pitch black by 2pm, and the sun never rose above the horizon.

In the city, it was surprisingly lively for being at what felt like the end of the world, but once you ventured outside, it was you and nature. Majestic, mysterious, and at its mercy.

We had the great fortune to witness some of the brightest aurora of the season, and we heard that many visitors prior to us stayed a whole week without seeing nothing.  If I didn't know it was the solar wind interacting with our atmosphere, guided by Earth's magnetic field, I'd have become deeply religious at that point.
