Misc. Travel in 2019 (Part I)

2019 had to be one of the most intense travel  years of my life, even eclipsing the very year (2007) that sparked the creation of this travel blog. I spent 208 days abroad, and visited 26 countries.

While every country had an underlying reason to visit, not everyone had photos worth sharing. Here are just a few from the first half of the year.

Taipei / 台北, Taiwan (January, February, April, December)

Just when I think I've seen most of what's to see, I'm always pleasantly surprised by finding something new.

Tokyo / 東京, Japan (February)

A short trip for a conference that allowed me a bit of time to stroll in some parks and discover some of the famous themed bars in the city. First time I deliberately ate raw chicken.

Tallinn, Estonia (March)

Another conference.. and a goat at a dinner but not for dinner!

Zhongshan / 中山, China (April)

The city of LEDs - really, it produces 70% of the lights in China.

Manila, Philippines (May)

Yes, I finally tried balut. Once was enough.

Istanbul Airport (May)

Normally I wouldn't post an airport, but this replacement of the Istanbul Atatürk airport is the biggest I've seen and the lounge, the best.

Bucharest / București, Romania (May)

A brief stop for a relative's wedding and some soul food.

Riga / Rīga, Latvia (May)

Another work trip that afforded me some time to walk around and eat at my favourite restaurant in Latvia, Rozengrāls (yes I am such a tourist).

Hangzhou / 杭州 and Shanghai / 上海, China (June and August)

First time trying fresh Chinese bayberries (杨梅), and seeing transparent OLED screens used in everyday situations (taxi ads)!
