Colombo, literally meaning green mango, is the largest city and capital of Sri Lanka, and one we unfortunately did not have much time to enjoy. We were advised by friends to not spend too much time here, but now respectfully disagree, and would like to spend a few days upon our next trip.
Filled with colonial architecture as well as new modern buildings, it felt like an up and coming place, finally freed from the stagnation that accompanied years of civil conflict (more so the economic cost).
One thing we absolutely had to do was try the local lagoon crab, ironically in short supply due to worldwide demand (Singaporeans are especially guilty here) - and we actually could not find a place to eat it until we stumbled across Ministry of Crab - which served our beloved crabs in quite novel ways (curry, butter, garlic pepper) - do look forward to trying more.
Anyway, just a few photos for now until we have the chance to return, which at only 2.5 hours away, we certainly will.
